Verizon's Moto X Website is Live

Verizon Wireless has launched its Moto X website today, allowing consumers to sign up for email updates. The carrier has said that the black and white versions will be going on sale in the coming weeks. At the launch of the Moto X, customization options were only available on AT&T. Verizon customers will be allowed to customize their phone via Motorola's MotoMaker later this year.

The Moto X will be going on sale later this month beginning at $199.99 for a 16GB model. Motorola's new flagship will be available on all four major US carriers, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and also US Cellular. T-Mobile will have its own model of the phone. A leaked Verizon release date document is suggesting that the phone will be available on the carrier around August 23.

Despite the fact that the phone is very mid-range, it still does bring something unique to the market. The Moto X can be completely customized via the MotoMaker, which allows consumers to change all aspects of the phone. For the cherry on top of the sundae, the flagship will be assembled here in the US, specifically in Fort Worth, Texas.

T-Mobile Moto X Not Available In Stores At First

The Moto X will be out on all five major US telecoms, but T-Mobile customers will have a harder time getting one. Mike Sievert from Big Magenta has told AllThingsD that the phone will be able through Motorola only at first. He says that the new phone could become available in retail stores, but announcements would be come later in the year if it was to happen. Pricing is also concealed, and I'm not sure whether the no-contract carriers will play nice with the Moto X.. Either way, if you are on T-Mobile and want a Moto X, prepare yourself for an adventure.

The Moto X is coming to all the big players in the US telcom industries. Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, US Cellular, and T-Mobile will be offering the phone $199.99 on contract with 16 GB of storage. The 32 GB model will be priced higher, AT&T is offering it at $249.99.

AT&T has landed a HUGE exclusive. At launch, you can only get a customized version on AT&T. To customize the phone, you have to use the Moto Maker online. Also, you can only pick between 16 back cover options, not 18. AT&T will be carrying only black and white versions at its retail stores.

On all other carriers, you can only pick between the black or white versions as of right now. Motorola will hopefully be be opening up the velvet rope to Moto Maker for other carriers soon. Regardless, the Moto X is available on all carriers, but just not with as many bells and whistles as the AT&T versions do.

The Exterior

You make your phone

There are 504 versions of the Moto X. Start out by picking one of 18 back covers, either a black or white front panel, and seven colors for the side buttons and rear camera lens. You also pick between 16 and 32 GB for storage. To wrap it up, you can engrave the back of it.

You handmake your phone using the "Moto Maker" online. Even though the Moto X is available on every carrier (GSM and CDMA), the customization is only available for AT&T customers at launch. And, let's say you don't like your phone. You have up to two weeks to ship it bak and grab another one.

Made in the USA

To permit for the custom design process, Motorola has based the entire Moto X operation in Fort Worth, Texas. Bits and pieces come from 16 startes and countries from around the world, and around 2,000 workers or so assemble the phones. Motorola claims that you can order your phone, and then it will get to you in 4 days or less.

The Moto X's exterior is awesome, but the interior is a totally different story.

The Interior

The Moto X has a 4.7 inch 720p AMOLED display. The specs are very mid-range though. The phone is powered by a glorified Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chip with two custom chips for the always-on voice recognition. The phone runs Android 4.2.2 (4.3 is hiding?), with only a little of customization. A stock Android version of the phone is in the works. A $199 phone seems like a very big bet for Motorola. Hopefully, the phone will succeed.
