Samsung Galaxy Gear to possibly be launched on September 4th
Bloomberg is reporting that Samsung's smartwatch is a "wristwatch-like smartphone" that will be launching on September 4th. The news source points to the Android-powered device being able to "make phone calls, surf the web, and handle emails." As indicated by a trademark filing, Bloomberg is expecting the device to be called the Samsung Galaxy Gear.
The report alludes to that the device will operate independently from your smartphone, but it's possible that Bloomberg's sources are saying that the watch will be a companion device to the smartphone, using its cell service. The Galaxy Gear is expected to launch on September 4th at the company's press event in Berlin.

Patents Filed by Samsung Hint at Smartwatch in the works
Patents filed today by Samsung in Korea may indicated that a smartwatch is coming soon.
Samsung has filed Korean patents that, as revealed by MovePlayer.com, have to do with a potential smartwatch design. With the iWatch possibly being made, Samsung has decided its time to file patents in order to secure itself incase if wants to enter the market.
Apple, Samsung's strongest rival in mobile device markets, has also patented a smartwatch design that is flexible like a slap-bracelet and incorporates touch controls. The company also recently bought a chip company, Passif Semi, which may have been done to get more people to work on the smartwatch project. Also, the word in the rumor forums, is that Apple has assembled a large team to work on the smartwatch product, probably to be christened the "iWatch."
